I know exactly what you mean. And I would like to compare it with the DVD releases in Germany. The specials and making ofs are nearly always in the English language with German subtitles. It's very frustrating to read those subtitles and you're not able to concentrate on the making of, too. Well, it is as it is... and we can't change it. The difference to the DVD releases is that a full English version is possible!

Thank you for your trust! :D

I think it will be weird in German to start with but as the game proceeds i think i'll get used to it. The one thing about subtitles that i thinks annoying is when you read the text, your taking notice of the text and nothing around you and you might miss summit like a movement etc. I get that alot with martial arts films.

I'm not fussed what so ever and i should'nt be fussed because the team are working extremly hard to deliver us BS fans a new game FOR FREE and i take my hat off and take a bow and what they deliver us i'll be extremly gratefull and a happy person.

First of all, I appreciate what the team is doing. And I wasn't trying to be rude, and I don't think my post was rude.

What I also hate is that in every post (not necessarily this forum), when someone has a suggestion or a question or whatever, that there is always at least one guy who answers the question as if he's a part of the team. Who thinks he can speak in their name. This is extremely annoying.
What I also think is sad, is that there were people responding in German in this post... really sad.

Back to the post. I was just making a request like spigian. And the developers gave a good response in saying that the game will be easy to localize. That's good enough for me.

My post was against this in general, but especially against dikkeduif and Social who argued with the game being slaughtered by the german release first...

Der Geist aus der U-Bahn, maybe you didn't notice my gratitude towards the crew and my appreciation of this game. But here they are again, and especially for the team ;)

First of all great job with the game

Well that's just my opinion. The screenshots look great and the music is fantastic.

Some european countries have to watch movies with english voices and subtitles of their mother languages because they were not synchrosised...

So? Who do you blame for that? First you jump on other people because they want the game in English, now you're complaining yourself about unsynchronized movies. That's called hypocrisy.[/quote]

Well, here's my opionion (I'm kind of angry now - why make such a big deal about everything?): spigian expressed his wish for a version with English voices. What the hell is wrong with that? Nobody is flaming, nobody is complaining, and the only people who are ignorant here seem to be the Germans.

Some european countries have to watch movies with english voices and subtitles of their mother languages because they were not synchrosised...

So? Who do you blame for that? First you jump on other people because they want the game in English, now you're complaining yourself about unsynchronized movies. That's called hypocrisy.

Besides: These countries *choose* to watch foreign films with subtitles. Some people actually prefer it that way. This is not an issue of ignorancy, but business. Distributors will release movies whatever way they they think they can make most money with.

we germans have to play a lot of games with english voices and german subtitles .... for example final fantasy 10 etc... and we dont have to complain about it.

We sure do. I heard people complain. Or whatever you call "complaining".

I mean, if you release this game in german firsy, people won't give it any attention. There's a reason why everything on the net is released in English first if possible...

I agree with Geist aus der U-Bahn here, though. Posts like the one from Social are pretty short sighted.

Summary: Broken Sword 2.5 will be released in a complete german version. It's able to translate the german text files with a simple text editor into every language. We don't do that, but we hope the fans will do it. Same for the voices. We support all languages, but we don't translate by ourselves.

I hope it's clear now and we can close this topic. Everyone gets one last message to clarify his or her opinion.

Americans only can speak english , british people only english too... while germans must be able to speak at least two languages , a bit ignorant isnt it? Some european countries have to watch movies with english voices and subtitles of their mother languages because they were not synchrosised...

and now americans come over here to flame around because this is the first game which is not completely synchrosised in english... we germans have to play a lot of games with english voices and german subtitles .... for example final fantasy 10 etc... and we dont have to complain about it.

so stop flaming around because this is the first game you see which is not synchrosised completely into english  man this is so ignorant. this is a fan project its difficult enough to get all german voices.
And seriously .. the german voice of goerge is very atmospheric and much more characteristic than the english voice , just in my opinion :D. And this is not because its german , its just a better voice :)

Post by spigian » 14. December 2005, 12:40

Thank you for your explanations Der Geist aus der U-Bahn. I totally agree with you that the game should be done in complete german version. In fact this is what the team is doing all these years. I just expressed that also a complete english version should be very good for the non-german speaking adventurers. I was implying only two versions. No matter, what I am sure that we will all enjoy this fabulous game and we will share our thrill in this forum. Broken Sword 2.5 is close from what I understood.

Spigian, again, I never mentioned you in person. But if you look around all the different threads here and at the News section you´ll find the request and mostly the demand for an english language version many many times...too many times for my taste. My post was against this in general, but especially against dikkeduif and Social who argued with the game being slaughtered by the german release first...come on guys, what´s your proof? I would have nothing against an english version, or a french one, or russian or whatever-but I still can understand that a german team will stick to a german language version first as it´s most certainly the easiest one to do for them.

Post by spigian » 13. December 2005, 20:08

Thank you Tooms once again. I did not intend to start a conflict with my topic, I just made request. And as I said, only an english version other than german would be enough.Keep up the good work.

Post by Tooms » 13. December 2005, 20:01

Our programmers are really ingeniously guys. They planned "Broken Sword 2.5" to be a modular game. That means: Subtitles can be edited in every text editor into the language of your choice! That also means, all spoken words can be substituted, too. I would like to quote Chris as he said: "Maybe the English version will even be made by other English fans, who knows?" That's exactly our intention behind the modular architecture of the game engine. Our hope is that many people around the world will do a complete localisation of Broken Sword 2.5... at least, it is possible.

Post by spigian » 13. December 2005, 19:02

I never said that the game should not come out in german.I never said that the first version should not be completely in german.I just asked if an english version would be possible.I do not know why you react like this. I never insulted you or anyone in this forum but it is offensive to tell to somenone SFTU when he is not even talking to you.Not even now that you insult me in such a manner. The team does not have a problem, why should you?I think is really pointless speaking about something that you are not the responsible person.

Post by Monjon » 13. December 2005, 18:43

The Geist aus der U-Bahn is right.
The team is out of germany so there will be first a german version, clear?
Is it so hard to understand?
And as a matter of fact they have said that they will subtitle it.
So I´m agree with the Geist aus der U-Bahn...
STFU!

Post by Chris » 13. December 2005, 11:00

I, as a German and a European, would also love to see an English release. Not instead of but additionally to the German localisation. To us German fans George's German voice is essential for the atmosphere of the game because it's what we are used to since the game was released back in 1996. And I think every1 here understands that the non-German fans are eager to have an English version of the game. But you have to understand that this would mean a big lot of additional work for the team. Although the staff never said they would not do an English version ever. They just concentrate on the German for the first release and maybe later there will be an English version if there are contacts to good English voice actors. Maybe the English version will even be made by other English fans, who knows?
Just accept that for now the game is developed in German.
But I hope that the team will make an English version if they get enough help from English fans to get the necessary contacts.

And you have to see that the team of course is making the game THEY would like to play. And since the team is German that would be a German game, which tells you where the priorities lie.

Post by spigian » 13. December 2005, 02:50

I think you miss the essence of my words! I do not have any problem with the game being in German.I just wish to see it (if possible) in a complete english version. I think the team is making a game for everyone who likes Broken Sword and adventures. What I wish does not mean that it will be done. But telling me to STFU is unacceptable first of all because I have the right to state my opinion and second of all from the moment that Tooms replies to me in a way that he shows that he does not have any problem and you are NOT a team member then I can not understand why you had to comment it in this way. Anyway,I think there is no point in arguing with you because there is no need to convince you for anything.

Post by Der Geist aus der U-Bahn » 13. December 2005, 02:19

Did I mention you in particular offend me in my post? I just can´t read anymore of complaints of that kind on this board. And sure it´s my business to utter my opinion about this subject. You come up with numbers? Then they should release the game in chinese first...
Is it so hard to accept the fact that a german team is doing a german version? Nothing against multiple language versions of games but HEY we talk about a non-profit fan-made one here! And this means limits...even professional games are published in countries with subtitles only.

P.S.: German is spoken by about 100 million people.

Post by spigian » 13. December 2005, 00:33

First of all, Der Geist aus der U-Bahn I never offended you in any way. Since the team members do not have any problem talking about this matter and they do not say that they will not do it then I think it is none of your business to speak like this about it.Second of all, I never obliged the team to do it, I just made a request. Thirdly, if you would like to think about the others too, I think that everyone who has a computer is able to speak english, even you, a German. This is not the case for the german language though. Last but not least, the team is kind enough to produce this game for everyone's sake (forgive me if a make a mistake) and if you come to think about it, it would be better if they made a full english release of the game. I have nothing against german language but if you are interested for the rest of the world, german are spoken by 60 million people, while english are spoken at least by 2 billion. Anyway, I do not think that your post was appropriate for anyone in this forum (STFU???).I do not know you but at least I respect you.

Post by Chris » 12. December 2005, 00:04

We, the German fans, also think that George's voice was very important to the atmosphere of the game. But it's his German voice to us. Had we played the game in English it would be the English voice. It's a question of good old memories.

Post by Der Geist aus der U-Bahn » 11. December 2005, 21:22

I can´t hear it anymore..."make it english make it english..." ! If this team would come from an english speaking country I bet they would have done that...but apparently they are all german speaking so why the hell shouldn´t they make the game in german?? Be happy that they plan to subtitle it in many languages, otherwise go and look for a team who will produce an english version of their own. Synchronisation, especially professional for a fan-made game is rare, if not unique. So STFU with all these attacks against the game being released in german.

BTW: has anyone of you ever heard the german version of Georgies voice? In the whole game? What makes you think that George not speaking with his english voice would "slaughter much that makes the game great"??
