No, the release of the source code would include only the engine, not the game code.

sorry im a bit of a modding novice, would this enable to us to customise characters wthin the game, such as redisgning the character to look for example like oursleves, or would it add new characters?

Sorry, we haven't made a decision whether the engine will be open source or not. I can't imagine we'll release our code until the game is released. So please be patient.

I think even if you´ve got the engine, you have to design/draw/create your own animations or every person in the game.
So you´ll need a whole team for such a project-> have fun :P

Can be a great idea, to make new aventures with this engine.
