BS2.5 without german voices

Postby c_byran » 17. June 2008, 04:01

Hi. Quick question: At the release date are you going to release a version with English Subs no German Voices or will there be an Option to turn the voices off? Thanks. Its very difficult for me to read english Subtitles while the voices are spoken in german! lol

As it was already said several times, we WILL release an english version WITH english voices. You'll just need to wait a little bit more than german fans. However, the voices are already being recorded.

Unfortunately, at the end Rolf Saxon didn't agree to voice the whole role. However, we might still have his voice for some small part. However, we will try to find a similar voice and promise to do the best we can ;) So, english version should be of high quality, too.

thats a real shame.. i cant believe he isnt willing to do this for his and the game's fans. its not like the guy has a busy acting career or something, and to spend a few hours reading a script out loud into a microphone would not hurt him. im really disappointed in his decision and would love to know the reason why he declined.

great thanks to you guys for trying to stay true to the first and second game and try to get the original voice actor, and also the best of luck trying to get someone who sounds like rolf saxon. i really cant wait for this game and hope you consider having a donation thing available on this site once the game is launched, releasing the game for free is very good of you and im sure many people like myself would like to donate a little money as our thanks of all your time and effort.

ps.. im not sure if this question has been asked, but is this the first and last broken sword game you will be making ? or do you plan to make another one after this in the future. any info on this would be great :-)

thanks guys !!

Well, firstly, about Rolf Saxon. He was really motivated to voice our game, but after thinking for a while, he stated a couple of reasonable arguments, why he won't do it. The main argument is that if he voices our game, it will be even more similar to the originals. According to him, this could not only be wrong for the Revolutions, but for us, as well. Why? Probably because many people would think that the game was made by the original creators and we, as a team, would fade into darkness ;) You can disagree, but I suppose this is quite true. What's more, some guy/actor will have a good opportunity to be noticed :)

Now, about another BS game. Firstly, I need to say that we have put LOTS into this project to make it in a high quality. I don't think that we could find such motivation to make another good game for free. We need to earn money in life, you know ;) Maybe someone in the team is silently planning smth like that, but from what I know, I doubt that.
On the other hand, I think at least some of us will stay in game development business. I personally am going to make another adventure game (with another team, though, but in a comic style, too), so I might post some news here, if anyone was interested ;)

thanks for replying so quick Domino.

What Rolf argued is fair enough, but i can guarantee every person who played/plays the english version of the BS games would have prayed Rolf again did the voice. But thats that :-)

I agree with what you said about not having the motivation and the energy to do another BS game for free. How about if the team your with at the moment were funded ? by the fans and/or independent sponsor maybe. Im sure there is enough BS/Adventure fans out there who want more of this game. And of course this time, sell the download on release date and have donations at the same time.

And please please post any info you have about your own side-project.

cheers Domino ! :-)

We cannot earn money for this game (or any other BS game we could make in the future), because we don't have the copy-rights. Same with donations.
However, there are two possibilities to make money for such projects:
1. buy the copy-rights from the Revolutions and then do whatever we want. However, this option isn't very promising, because the rights could cost a lot and we still might not make enough money to pay for food ;D
2. make the game and sell it to the Revolutions (like we were freelancers, working for them). But this isn't too good, as well, because they would probably not be willing to buy our game (at least for big money). There are a lot of reasons, why. I won't name them right now.
Now, another problem is that we need to pay the actors. We'd need quite a lot of money for that, too. And I don't think that we'd make enough to pay for food ourselves :D
So, all in all, there are lots of difficulties, which we would probably not be able to face.
